A Summer of Change

Sometimes it takes a wake up call to remember just how blessed we are. That's what happened to me this summer.

I had a shock one day . Makelle's eyes suddenly turned yellow. At first it was almost like a novelty; like seeing an old aquaintance after many years. But that feeling didn't last long. Reality set in quickly as the summer of 2010 brought changes I was not ready for.
Makelle's eyes just starting to turn yellow.

Life was extremely busy for me in the months leading up to the return of the yellow eyes. Funny how we let the busyness of life take over and soon  it is way out of control. I had been running so fast and so crazy that I think my body told me it was time to stop. The weekend of the 4th of July I got a virus that was so bad  it left me in bed for almost 2 weeks.

At the tailend of my virus, (the day I started feeling like a human again) Makelle came to me saying that she did not feel well. She thought she might have a fever. I took her temp, and sure enough she had a fever. Of course my first thought was, "Oh shoot, I have given her the gombu." I was sure that after a couple of weeks of rest in bed she would be back to normal.

The next morning I woke up to our little dog Murphy very sick, laying in vomit and diarrhea. As the day went on he became so sick that I decided I better take him to the vet. Makelle was very worried about him. She asked if she could ride in the car with me to take him. We started on our ride to the vet. As we chatted away in the car (me going on and on about how miserable this virus was), I asked her if her thoat was hurting, "No," she answered. "Thats weird," I thought. Then I looked at her. In the sunlight I could see those yellow eyes for the first time in a very long time. Shock ran through me. I looked at the clock, it was about 4:30 in the afternoon. I knew Makelle's liver Dr's office would soon be closing. This was no time to mess around with time. I turned the car around and headed home to call the Dr.
