Makelle bravely went to the surgical room. There she was greeted by two nurses who prepped her for the scope.
Less than 48 hours earlier Makelle had attended her first day of Jr. High. Now she was here in the hospital wearing the same clothes that she had been in since that first school day. She was too sick and weak to feel like even changing. I coaxed her a few times to try to change, but gave up when I realized it just wasn't worth the effort. It did make me sad as I thought back on all that had happened in that same outfit.
Ironically though, that same shirt turned out to be quite a bright spot for Makelle. As the nurses prepped her for the scope, one of the nurses baffled, looked at her shirt and said, "Why do you have an intestine on your shirt... I don't get it... what does an intestine have to do with a piece of cheese?" Makelle giggled as she said, "It's macaroni and cheese." Oh Barbara, one nurse said to the other," it's not an intestine... it's macaroni!"
Makelle was able to drift of to sleep laughing at the funny nurses who obviously had spent too much time in surgery looking at intestines.
It's Mac and Cheese... not an intestine!
